Avoiding roach infestations

A roach infestation in your home can be treated, but much easier to avoid them by keeping your home clean. Roaches are attracted to dirt and filth, and high moisture areas like basements and kitchens.

  • Clean: Regularly clean your home, especially the kitchen, to remove crumbs and spills.
  • Remove food and water: Store food in airtight containers, and fix leaky pipes, faucets, and drains.

Small infestations can often be resolved within days to weeks, but large infestations can take several weeks to months. Call or text us today to help rid your living space of roaches!

Different types of roaches that live in Missouri have different preferences:

American cockroach: The largest common roach in the United States, measuring 1.5–2 inches long. They are reddish-brown or mahogany in color, and often have a yellowish figure-eight pattern on their head. They prefer fermented food and water, and are commonly found in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, drains, and laundry rooms.

Oriental cockroach: A large, dark brown cockroach that is commonly called a “water bug” because it prefers to live and reproduce in damp areas. They are believed to be of African origin, and are almost as large as the American cockroach.

Australian cockroach: Similar in appearance to the American cockroach, but slightly smaller in size. They have yellow streaks on their thorax and sides, and prefer humid climates.

Other types of cockroaches include:

German cockroach: A common species worldwide that is light to dark brown in color, with two stripes near the back of its head. They prefer dark, moist places and do well in the southern climate.

Brown-banded cockroach: A cockroach with brown uniform banding across its wings. They prefer warmer temperatures, and drier and higher locations.

Smokybrown cockroach: A cockroach that is commonly found outdoors in the southern United States. They prefer humid environments.
